Baden-Baden
Automobiles Tradition and Future
Exactly 125 years ago, in October 1887, Baden- Baden was scene of an automobile sensation when Gottlieb Daimler presented his trolley car on the tracks of the central station and consequently Baden-Baden became a meeting place of great demand for motorists. An expert on the scene described in a very lively way how the internationally known spa and cultural city became the starting point, stage or destination for great automotive races, from the turn of the century and for many years after. In 1921 August Batschari had invited to the International Automobile Tournament, the first event of its kind in Germany. Famous race drivers and well-known construction engineers like Carl Benz, Gottlieb Daimler, Wilhelm Maybach, August Horch, Joseph Vollmer, Ferdinand Porsche and many legendary automotive brands have all added to the tradition of automotive history in Baden-Baden.
